India-Germany high defence committee meeting strengthens bilateral ties in Berlin
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane co-chaired the India-Germany High Defence Committee (HDC) meeting with the State Secretary of the German Ministry of Defence,Benedikt Zimmer in Berlin on February 27. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral security and defence ties between the two countries, which are integral components of the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various aspects of regional security and explored opportunities for joint military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region. They also deliberated on potential defence industrial projects and proposals, emphasizing the importance of closer collaboration between the defence industries of India and Germany. A key area of discussion was the potential for collaboration in high technology within the defence sector.
The HDC meeting follows the visit of German Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, to India in 2023, indicating the ongoing efforts to deepen defence cooperation between the two nations.
Following the HDC meeting, Giridhar Aramane engaged with the German Institute of International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik – SWP), a prominent think tank in Berlin, further enhancing dialogue and cooperation between India and Germany in matters of international security and defence.
