1,717 candidates to contest in phase 4 of Lok Sabha polls: ECI
A total of 1,717 candidates from 10 states and Union territories will contest in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India said on Friday.
According to the poll body, a total of 4,264 nominations were filed for 96 parliamentary constituencies across these states. The polling will be held on May 13.
The ECI said that the maximum number of nominations were received from Telangana, totaling 1488, followed by Andhra Pradesh, with 1103 nominations.
Constituency-wise, the Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency in Telangana received the highest number of nominations at 177, followed by 13-Nalgonda and 14-Bhongir in the same state, with 114 nominations in each.
For the fourth phase, the average number of contesting candidates in a parliamentary constituency is 18.
The Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases till June 1. Polling for two phases have already been concluded. Votes will be counted on June 4.
