Iqbal S Lalpura Defends PM Modi, Slams AAP Government Over Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Event

Chandigarh, November 27, 2025: BJP Parliamentary Board member and former Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, held a press conference today to counter allegations made by the Punjab Government concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from a program held at Sri Anandpur Sahib on the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Lalpura strongly criticized AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, labeling him “ignorant,” and clarified that the main commemorative event was held in Delhi, where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji attained martyrdom at Chandni Chowk, emphasizing that the Prime Minister has always promoted the Sikh faith. He highlighted that PM Modi has done countless works for the Sikh community over the past 11 years. Furthermore, Lalpura alleged that an “act of desecration” occurred during the Punjab Government’s event at Sri Anandpur Sahib, claiming that the special session failed to include any discussion on the life and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Referring to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as the “biggest comedian,” Lalpura demanded a public apology from the CM for the lack of serious deliberation on the Guru’s life at the special assembly. He pointed out the Delhi event, which was attended by the President and organized by the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee with support from the Delhi Government, contrasted sharply with the Punjab event, which reportedly excluded the SGPC. Lalpura also mentioned he was not invited by the Punjab Government to the Sri Anandpur Sahib event, noting that the BJP had held its own program there, attended by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who refrained from making any political statements.
