Uttar Purvi Mahotsav to showcase the rich diversity of North East India

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region is organizing the first “Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024,” a five-day cultural event at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from January 13th to 17th.

Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of MoDoNER, said that the event has been meticulously curated to unveil the rich diversity of Northeast India, bringing together traditional arts, crafts, and cultures. The event aims to provide a platform for economic opportunities, fostering exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings.

The event will see the participation of 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, with organized panel discussions and buyer-seller meets. Key highlights include a showcase of handcrafted products, handloom textiles, sustainable handicrafts, and indigenous fruits and organic products unique to the North East Region.

Featuring the participation of 250 artisans, weavers, and farmers, the event will highlight the Northeast’s rich cultural heritage through handcrafted products, textiles, sustainable handicrafts, and indigenous agri-horti produce.

Distinguished panel discussions will delve into themes such as propelling the Northeast towards prosperity, recognizing the contributions of women leaders, and exploring the dynamic role of the region’s youth and workforce in shaping India’s economic tapestry.

The festival will also facilitate significant buyer-seller meets, fostering collaboration in handlooms, handicrafts, agro products, and tourism.

As part of the festival, two significant events will take place: the inauguration of Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the laying of the foundation stone for a North East Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi. The convention centre aims to become a hub for culture and information from North East India in the capital city.
