Union Health Minister inaugurates super specialty block in Kanpur
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, on Wednesday virtually inaugurated a super specialty block at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College in Kanpur. This state-of-the-art facility, constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at a cost of Rs. 200 crore, will provide 12 super-specialty services, including neurosurgery and gastroenterology.
Dr. Mandaviya said that the super specialty block will grant locals access to specialized services, saving time and resources. The health minister also laid the foundation stone for an All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) Satellite Centre in Kanpur, highlighting its dual role in training doctors and providing essential community care.
Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Dr. Mandaviya underscored the establishment of AIISH institutes nationwide. He highlighted significant progress in India’s healthcare sector, noting the increase in AIIMS from 6 to 23, a doubling of medical colleges to 710, and the establishment of over 10,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Other achievements included doubling MBBS and PG seats and the establishment of more than 1.60 lakh Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, showcasing rapid healthcare progress in India.
Demonstrating the government’s commitment to healthcare, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the expansion of quality care and treatment options. He praised the success of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana, benefiting 55 crore people, and the creation of 50 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID cards.
Focusing on Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare initiatives, Dr. Mandaviya commended the state’s unique position with two AIIMS and a doubled number of medical colleges in the last decade. He applauded strides in various sectors, reflecting Uttar Pradesh’s overall development trajectory.
The Super Specialty Block at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, Kanpur, features 270 beds with departments covering diverse specialties, equipped with 30 ICU beds and 8 operation theatres. The AIISH Satellite Centre in Kanpur, upon operation, is expected to serve 15,000 patients annually, addressing speech language pathology, audiology, prevention of communication disorders, tele-assessment, and rehabilitation.
